ED 115 EDUCATION IN AMERICAN SOCIETY An examination of the historical, cultural, and philosophical foundations of education in the United States from the 1700’s to the present. The purposes and organization of the delivery of schooling will be discussed and contemporary topics in education explored, including the roles of the American school in a democratic, multicultural society. The course is designed to help students decide whether the teaching profession is suited to their individual interests and abilities. A three-hour field study in schools is required each week in addition to lecture hours. Lecture: 3 hours per week. 4 Credits
