PM 201 FOUNDATIONS OF PARAMEDICINE



This course focuses on the integration of theory, skills, and clinical decision making for the foundations of Paramedicine according to current state and antional guidelines.  An emphasis is placed on EMS systems, communications and scene management, EMS operations, pathophysiology, and comprehensive patient assessment.  The senario-based laboratory component of this course focuses on airway and ventilation management, vascular access and medication administration.  The lab fosters team membership, leadership skills, and clinical decision-making.  4 credits. Lecture: 2 hours per week. Lab: 4 hours per week. Prerequisites: Admission to Paramedicine. Corequisites: Anatomy & Physiology [BI 215, BI 217, BI 113, or equivalent], PM 202, PM 203. Department consent required. 4 Credits Co-requisites: PM 102, PM 103. Prerequisite or Co-requisite: BI 113. Note: A combination of BI 215 and BI 217 may be taken in place of BI 113.
