Paramedicine - Day Option Certificate

Paramedics provide the most advanced level of prehospital emergency patient care for critically ill and injured patients who access the emergency medical system. A Paramedic possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide compassionate, comprehensive advanced patient care in dynamic and often stressful environments.

The MassBay Paramedicine program prepares students to become members of the health care team and function as leaders in prehospital emergency care as paramedics. The program provides students with knowledge, skills and clinical decision-making skills to manage patients of all ages with acute and critical illness.

MassBay’s EMT Paramedicine Programs are accredited by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health: Office of Emergency Medical Services. The Paramedicine Program has been issued a Letter of Review from the Commission on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) and is pursuing full accreditation from CAAHEP

Upon successful completion, a Certificate in Paramedicine will be awarded.

Admission Requirements

Applicants seeking admissions to health profession programs will be evaluated on an individual basis. Students seeking admission will be evaluated by their GPA and the total number of college-level credits completed at MassBay. Priority for admission is given to current MassBay students. Applicants must also meet all other required course prerequisites for the program. Minimum eligibility for admissions to this program includes:

• HS Diploma or GED
• MassBay Placement into EN 101  or completion of EN 98  with a grade of C or higher.
• MassBay Placement into MA 98  or completion of MA 95  with a grade of C or higher.
• Successful completion of Reading Assessment Test. Refer to the Competitive Programs Admissions Requirements.
• Current Nationally Registered and/or state certified EMT required prior to enrolling in Paramedicine courses. Students who enter with NREMT EMT Certification only, must obtain MA EMT certification prior to enrolling in PM 210 .
• Current CPR certification (AHA BLS, ARC Professional Rescuer, Military Training Network).

Background Check

• The student must complete the CORI /SORI (Criminal/Sex Offender Record Information) to authorize a search of conviction and pending criminal case information under Standard Required Level 1 by DCJIS (Department of Criminal Justice Information Services). The CORI/SORI completion process is part of the New Student Orientation. If there is a finding of criminal convictions or “open cases,” the student will be ineligible to participate in the Health Sciences Program. A National County Criminal Background check will be conducted as part of the student’s completion of the clinical requirements. • Students must have a valid, unrestricted driver’s license in order to seek employment in the field.
• Students who do not submit the required Division of Health Sciences (DHA) health forms or other required information will have a health hold placed on their records preventing registration in any courses. Forms/information must be submitted to the DHS compliance coordinator. Refer to the DHS Student Handbook for additional information.
